Baker

Baker is a three-year upper-secondary vocational educational program that concludes with a final exam.

With the baker educational program at BIC Ljubljana students acquire practical experience in real learning environments, primarily in the school bakery workshop and in Kruharije in Cukrnije school shop, where they gain insight into typical workplace situations that might take place in the future.

In our school all practical lessons are conducted, complemented by practical work training at various employer sites.

After completing their schooling, students are proficient in operating all machinery, knowledgeable about various ingredients and are able to skillfully determine their optimal usage. They are familiar with all technological processes and can make a wide variety of bread and pastry products. They are being trained for an important profession with a rich tradition, worthy of respect and continuation.

Students are involved in the Erasmus+ programme, through which they undertake practical training in Germany, France, and Finland.

They participate in various competitions, such as the Moje podjetje (My company), where they establish a student company, the competition of the Consortium of Biotechnical Schools of Slovenia, the national competition of the Gostinsko turistični zbor Slovenije, competitions in English language proficiency, at both national and international levels (Poliglot, Best in English), the English EPI Reading Badge Competition and competitions in upper secondary vocational education in mathematics proficiency.

We offer student excursions to Graz, Klagenfurt, Cividale del Friuli (Čedad), Lignano, Lake Wörthersee (Vrbsko jezero), and Affenberg Landskorn (Opičja gora) near Villach, as well as professional visits to bakeries at Spar Slovenia, Žito and Don Don companies.

During the natural science days, they visit Ljubljana Zoo, the school veterinary clinic and the vivarium club at BIC Ljubljana (General Upper Secondary School and Veterinary Technician School), the University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana and participate in a clean-up initiative around the school premises. As part of cultural days, they attend film screenings and explore the city center of Ljubljana. Regular classes are enriched by sports days with a diverse selection of sports activities tailored to the season.

Within the framework of Slovenska mreža zdravih šol (as part of the wider European framework Schools of Health in Europe) we conduct various workshops on topics, such as safe Internet use, social inclusion, learning to learn, human trafficking, health and sexual education, waste separation, and the dangers of energy drinks. Additionally, we showcase our efforts at events, such as the Ljubljana Wine Route, Play with me Festival and various events in the Rudnik district community in Ljubljana.

Our students gain experience through participation in various projects. In the Promocija poklicev na osnovnih šolah (career promotion in primary schools) project, they engage in creative workshops showcasing the baking profession. In the MIND+ project, we enable them to customize their learning based on their goals and abilities. They also participate in projects, such as Growing up with a Book, aimed at promoting reading, and eTwinning. Moreover, our School of Food Processing and Nature Protection is the recipient of the European Quality Label for the eTwinning Slovenia project: I Feel Very European Today.

As part of the volunteering initiative at BIC Ljubljana, students have the opportunity to become volunteers. They participate in school celebrations and various events, such as World Food Day, Shrovetide, Earth Day, and the New Year's bazaar. Every year, they also host a representative from the US Embassy in Slovenia.
